Avicii’s tragic death in 2018 came two years after he announced his retirement from touring after years of chronic health problems, including acute pancreatitis.

In excerpts from Måns Mosesson’s book Tim — Avicii’s official biography he announced New York Postjournal entries written by the “Wake Me Up” artist while seeking treatment for drug and alcohol abuse detail his problems.

In one entry, he described how difficult it was to stop drinking alcohol, as prescribed by doctors, something he previously said he became “addicted to” to control his anxiety.

“It was hard for me to accept that I would never drink again, even though all the doctors strongly recommended that I wait at least a year before drinking any beer at all,” Avicii reportedly wrote. “Of course, I didn’t listen to most doctors, I listened to a couple who said it was fine if I was careful. I was ignorant and naive and I was going around the world, still on an endless tour – because When you wrap it up, you know what? Those days in the hospital they were the most peaceful and stress-free I can remember in the last six years, they were my real vacations, as depressing as that sounds.”
