Axl Rose sued for alleged violent sexual assault

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose was sued Wednesday by a former Penthouse magazine model who claims he sexually assaulted her in 1989 at a New York hotel, leaving her in anguish and despair and ruining her career. Seeking specific compensatory and punitive damages for bodily injury, pain and suffering, severe emotional distress, mental agony, humiliation, shame, anguish and economic damages, Sheila Kennedy, 61, filed the lawsuit in State Supreme Court in Manhattan. Rose, 61, of Malibu, California, was sued under the Adult Survivors Act, a transitional law in New York that allows adult victims of incidents that happened decades ago to file a complaint. The statute ends on Thursday.

In a statement, Rose’s attorney, Alan S. Gutman, said, “Simply put, this incident never happened.” Namely, the day before the deadline for submitting applications in New York State, these fictitious applications were submitted.” “MR. Rose does not recall ever meeting or speaking with the accuser, and had never heard of these trumped-up allegations before today,” he continued, “although he does not rule out the possibility that the fan photo was taken in passing.”

Mr. Rose is optimistic that the case will end in his favor. Kennedy, a resident of Palm Springs, California, claims in her lawsuit that she first saw Rose in February 1989 at a Manhattan nightclub and that the singer then invited her to a party in his hotel suite. Kennedy allegedly saw Rose having sex with another model before he became enraged and told her to leave his suite. The lawsuit states that after turning to face Kennedy, he attacked her from behind while dragging her across the floor by her hair and tying her hands with pantyhose. According to the lawsuit, Rose “did not attempt to verify Kennedy’s consent” or seek it. “He treated her like property that he used solely for sex.”
