Baby Chihuahua on the Mend After Suffering Seizure Following Rescue from Hoarding Home: 'Healthy and Thriving'

A Chihuahua puppy recovers from a seizure following a rescue mission.

Named Pioneer, the pup was one of more than 100 Chihuahuas recently removed from a home in New Mexico, according to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

The dogs were sent to local animal welfare organizations, including Best Friends, who took in 17 of them, including Pioneer, as well as seniors, adults and two moms with puppies.

While moving the puppies, Best Friends caregiver Kimmy Grimes said she noticed Pioneer was “moving a little erratically.”

According to the best friends, “she heard mom start whimpering frantically. I looked over and saw that Pioneer looked like she was having convulsions; she was rolling around like she wasn’t in control of her body movements. After a few seconds, she completely passed out and stopped breathing.”

Grimes was able to revive the pup, who initially had a “weak pulse.” Pioneer then “took a big, gasping breath and started breathing on her own,” Best Friends said.

After being revived, Pioneer was rushed to the Best Friends Animal Clinic, where she was stabilized. She slowly regained consciousness and began looking for warm hands to pet, Grimes said.

The little dog was later reunited with its mother and siblings, and the group began living together with two foster parents. The dogs are “healthy and thriving,” Best Friends said.

“Pioneer’s siblings are all bigger than her, so sometimes they knock her down, but she doesn’t seem to mind. She is a sweet, soft little puppy,” said caregiver Tina Sylvester. “I think he spends a lot of time with his mom.”

Pioneer is already adopted, according to best friends, and will soon live her life in a new home.
