A SIX-MONTH-OLD baby has died a day after she was hit by a suspected dangerous driver in a multi-storey car park.

Little Sophia Kelemen was hit by a Nissan Qashqai on the ground floor of a seafront car park in Tenby, Pembrokeshire.

Sophia is believed to have been visiting the popular resort with her family and friends when the tragedy happened on January 2.

She was rushed to hospital after the collision at Tenby Multi-Storey, but tragically died from her injuries a day later.

Sofia’s aunt Adriana Kelemen launched a fund-raising campaign to cover the funeral costs.

On the GoFundMe post, she wrote: “One seemingly ordinary day turned into our family’s worst nightmare.

Despite the doctors’ efforts, Sophia could not cope.

She said that it was an event that no one could have expected or planned for, especially right after the Christmas holidays.

A friend of Sophia’s mother, Simona, has started another fundraiser to repatriate the child, who will need £6,670 to return to his Romania.

She wrote: “Every cent counts and with your help Sophia will get home to Romania faster.”

The driver, Flaviu Naghi, 33, from Wigan, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He was said to be driving the vehicle without a license or insurance.

In a statement on Facebook, Dyfed-Powys Police wrote: “Sadly, we can confirm that a 6-month-old girl has died following a collision on the ground floor of a multi-storey car park in Tenby on January 2.

“Sophia Kelemen, from Leigh, Manchester area, was taken to hospital but died of her injuries on January 3.

“Our thoughts remain with her family at this difficult time.”

According to officers, the family of baby Sophie is now being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, January 4, where he was remanded in custody to appear at Swansea Crown Court on February 7.

He was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and was released on bail for those offences.

Heartfelt tributes to Sophia and her family have poured in, with Facebook users reacting to the police statement.

One wrote: “Rest in peace little one, pray for justice to be served”

Another added: “Poor little baby, rest in heaven little one.”

A third user replied: “Rest in heaven sweet little angel.”

Pictures of a young man dressed in pink caused thousands of reactions on social networks.

Officers added: “This is a tragic incident and the investigation is ongoing.

“We ask that you not speculate on the circumstances.”
