Lea Thompson finds pieces of her past everywhere she goes.

The actress, 63, shared a post on Instagram in May where she could be seen posing with the DeLorean while on vacation with her The Chicken Sisters actress Wendy Malick. (The car is the main plot point Back to the future film series, where Thompson portrays Lorraine Baines-McFly.)

“In a weird twist I ran into a super tricked out #deloriantimemachine #bestdayever❤️,” Thompson partially captioned the post at the time, as she shared a photo of herself striking a pose next to a vehicle sporting a “McFly” license plate.

Now, Thompson is recalling the moment to PEOPLE in an exclusive chat, saying, “I don’t think there’s more than 40 or 50 of them in the world that are set up like that — it was so weird.”

“They follow me everywhere, those damn DeLoreans,” adds the mother of two.
