Bala Hasan made her acting debut in 2016 with the film Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru. Bala won critical acclaim for her role as Prem in the neo-noir crime thriller. After the success of his debut film, he next starred in Vetrimaaran, a Tamil period action film Asuran. Bala plays the role of Rajesh Narasimman in the film. The film stars Dhanush and Manju Warrier, Ken Karunas, Teejay Arunasalam, Pasupathy, Prakash Raj, Ammu Abirami and Balaji Sakthivel in mainstream roles. The film is one of ten Indian films shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards (2021).

In 2020, Bala Hasan appeared on screen in a side character role in the action crime film Mafia: Chapter One. Bala plays Varun, a Narcotics Control Bureau officer in the film produced by Allirajah Subaskaran and directed by Karthick Naren. Bala got her career breakthrough when she starred in the Tamil legal drama Jai Bhim. Jai Bhim is basically a slogan or greeting used by followers of Indian scholar and social reformer Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. The film is based on a true incident in 1993, which involved Judge K. Chandru fighting a case on behalf of Sengeni, a member of the Irular tribe, to seek justice for her husband, Rajakannu, who went missing from the police station. Bala plays a police officer named Kirubakaran, alongside Surya, Lijomol Jose, K. Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan, Prakash Raj , Rao Ramesh and many others.
