In 2014, she ran in the by-elections for the Punjab Legislative Assembly in Talwandi Saab constituency under the name of Aam Aadmi Party. The ticket was earlier allotted to Punjabi singer Balkar Sidhu. However, she suffered a crushing defeat in this election. She then ran for the Lok Sabha election in 2019 with Badinda’s AAP vote, but lost the election. She is a member of the Government Assurance Committee of the Punjab Assembly from 2020 to 2021. In the 15th Punjab Legislative Assembly, she was appointed as a member of the House and Library Submissions/Pending Documents Committee of the Punjab Assembly and as a member of the Subsidiary Legislative Committee of the Punjab Assembly. In 2022, she contested again from the same Talwandi Saab constituency in the Punjab Legislative Assembly elections and defeated Jeetmohinder Singh Sidhu of the Shiromani Akali Dal party by 15,252 votes. In 2022, she was appointed as Chairman of the Questioning and Reference Committee of the Punjab Parliament.

In November 2005, Barkind registered as a voter in the Talwandi Saab Assembly, address 273, and her father’s name is Amarjit Singh. Baljinder Kaur is the adopted son of Amarjit Singh. Amarjit Singh passed away in 2005. In 2007, Baljinder Kaur filed a lawsuit in court claiming her rights to Amarjit Singh’s estate, relying on her adoption deed and her voter ID. In 2011, after the matter was put on hold, she again registered to vote at 272-A, which mentioned her biological father, Darshan Singh. In 2018, Bathinda Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Diprava Lakra received a complaint from Talwandi Sabo Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and Electoral Registration Officer Barinder Singh that Baljinder Kaur had a double ballot with a different father’s name and home address. He claimed that Barkind had two voter ID cards with different details. However, when the issue was investigated in 2015, her ballot mentioning her father’s name as Amarjit Singh was added to the list of absentee voters, thus mentioning her father’s name as Amarjit ·Singh’s vote was removed from the list. I never double vote. If I had two votes, the Board of Elections would not allow me to vote in 2014 and 2017. If any such reports are filed by SDM, I will request that this matter be investigated again. ”

Criminal case against Baljinder Kaur

In October 2022, the Chandigarh Magistrates Court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Prof. Baljinder Kaur in connection with bodily harm to police officers during the 2020 protest against electricity price hikes. The warrant was issued in her absence. during a court appearance in September.
