The EGOT winner’s long-awaited memoir will detail Streisand’s expansive career on screen and stage, and her journey to stardom. Streisand writes about her childhood in New York and her struggles to become an actress, according to the book description, where she worked in nightclubs until she was cast as Fanny Brice in the original Broadway production Fun girl.
Streisand also goes into detail about the stories behind the making of many of her famous albums, making the film Yentl (whose deluxe 40th anniversary soundtrack was released on October 27), and her friendships with celebrities like Marlon Brando. She also writes about her marriage to actor James Brolin.

Penguin Random House Audio also shares that the audiobook edition will feature exclusive content, including dozens of musical excerpts from Streisand’s Broadway shows, albums and films. Some of the songs included are “The Way We Were,” “Evergreen” and “Woman in Love,” written by Bee Gees members Barry and Robin Gibb for her platinum album Guilty. Streisand also “added more color and background to her stories,” the statement said, resulting in more than 50 additional adlibs.
Late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert will also appear on the audiobook, where he will introduce the book and read the closing credits. Penguin Random House Audio reports that the 48-hour audiobook is the longest audiobook the publisher has ever produced, and that it is “a true testament to Barbra’s incredible life and career.”
