Barkha Dutt is an Indian journalist. She became famous for her coverage of the 1999 Kargil War and her interview with Captain Vikram Batra. She quit the news channel NDTV in 2017 after 21 years. Now she is an anchor on Tiranga TV and hosts the prime time show “Democracy Live”.

Barkha Dutt was born on Saturday, December 18, 1971 (52 years old; as of 2023). Her zodiac sign is Sagittarius. She received her primary education from Modern School, New Delhi. She graduated in English Literature from St. Stephens College, New Delhi, and received her Masters in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia Center for Mass Communication Studies, New Delhi. She then went on to study for a master’s degree at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in New York.

She was born into a Brahmin family. Her father, SP Dutt, is an Air India official, and her mother, Prabha Dutt, is a well-known journalist with the Hindustan Times. Her sister, Bahar Dutt, is environment editor at CNN IBN. Barkha Dutt has been married twice, first to Mr. Mir and then to Dr. Haseeb Drabu, however, both marriages did not last long and ended in divorce.

In 2001, she got the opportunity to host a talk show. She thought and executed independently, and on February 4, 2001, the first episode of “We the People” was broadcast. In 2017, Barkha Dutt and renowned journalist Shekhar Gupta announced that they would start their own digital media company. Although Shekhar Gupta founded ‘The Print’, Barkha did not appear to be working for The Print, nor did her name appear in company records as a director. In January 2019, Kapil Sibal-backed Harvest TV announced that it had hired Karan Thapar and Barkha Dutt for its upcoming news channel Tiranga TV. She now hosts the primetime show “Democracy Live.”

- In 2002, she was accused by the Press Trust of India of violating its guidelines and claiming that the victims of the Gujarat riots were Hindus and Muslims.
- During the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Barkha Dutt and many other journalists were accused of reporting live and leaking positions and hideouts of the armed forces.
- In November 2010, the Radia Tapes controversy arose during the 2G scandal. Barkha Dutt’s conversation with Niira Radia was also revealed. This got her involved in the Radia Tapes controversy. She later apologized for the entire issue.
- On July 27, 2016, she tweeted about Arnab Goswami, saying she was ashamed that he was in the same field as her. She posted the tweet in response to Arnab’s statement on his show News Hour that strict action should be taken against “pseudo-secular and pro-Pakistan” journalists. Baha Dutt was criticized for her tweet as Arnab did not mention her name nor did he allow others on his show to mention anyone’s name.
