Barkha Madan is an Indian actress and model who left Bollywood in 2012 to become a Buddhist monk. She is one of the non-Himalayan Indo-Tibetan Buddhist nuns of FPMT (Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition).

In 2000, Bachchan visited Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh) and met with the Dalai Lama. Influenced by his public teachings, she became a monk in Kathmandu (Nepal) 12 years later and changed her name to Master. Gyalten Samten, 38 years old. According to Barkha, she began to feel a strong connection with Buddhism after visiting the Ramtek Ashram in Sikkim with her parents; she was 10 years old at the time. Barkha spoke about this in an interview, saying:
I didn’t want to come back from there that day. That’s where the first contact with the dojo began. “

In 2014, she starred in the Hindi film Surkhaab, her last film before becoming a monk; she was also one of the film’s producers. In an interview, while talking about the film Surkhaab (2014), she said:
The film was shot in just 25 days in Toronto and Punjab, with a crew of only 10 and a limited budget. I am co-producer, star and Chaiwallah. ”

- When Bakkar first asked Tibetan Buddhist scholar Lama Zopa Rinpoche whether he could become a monk, Rinpoche smiled and said:
