Basil Smikle Career
He began his career in 1996 as Fernando Ferrer’s Special Assistant, the Bronx Borough President. He then performed Ron Kirk for the United States in 2002. served the Senate as a consultant at work. From 2001 to 2003, he served as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s deputy state director. From 2015 to 2018, he served as the New York State Democratic Party’s executive director.
From 2018 to 2019, he served as a Distinguished Lecturer in Politics and Public Policy at Murphy Institute. Since 2019, he has been an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Teacher College. FoodCorps has appointed board member Rachel Willis to co-chair the board and welcomed two new directors to the organisation: Kenya Bradshaw and Dr. Basil Smikle Jr. Reconstruction US is an educational technology platform that creates and disseminates information that purposefully centres the voices, lived experiences, and histories of Black people. Kenya Bradshaw is the programme’s Chief Programme Officer.
Kenya served as Vice President of Policy and Community Engagement at TNTP (formerly The New Teacher Project), where she oversaw strategy to assist districts in fundamentally altering their approach to community engagement in order to bring about significant and long-lasting changes in education, prior to joining the leadership of Reconstruction.
Kenya formerly held the position of Tennessee Executive Director for Stand for Children before joining TNTP. As a child and adolescent advocate, she has also worked for the Urban Child Institute, The University of Tennessee, and the First Years Institute.
Child impact statements were developed in 2008 as a result of her work with the Shelby County Office of Early Childhood and Youth as a tool for local governments to use to make sure that every decision they make is in the best interests of children. She was recognised in 2012 as one of the “12 Who Made a Difference” in Memphis by the Commercial Appeal and as one of the Top 40 Under 40 honorees by the Memphis Business Journal. Kenya is a Pahara Fellow and has served on the National Civil Rights Museum’s board for eight years.
