The BBC’s breakfast couch looked a little different on Monday morning as regular presenter Jon Kay was not on the show.
The journalist usually co-hosts the program with Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday each week, but has been replaced by Ben Thompson, who regularly stands in when the main presenters are away.

Although Jon hasn’t addressed his absence from the show, it’s likely that he’s simply having an off day after a busy few weeks. Not only was Jon the host BBC Breakfast three days a week, but also co-hosts Saturday Live on BBC Radio 4 with Nikki Bedi since the beginning of August.
The 53-year-old announced his new hosting gig last month, explaining that listeners can tune in for the next six weeks to hear him on the show. “Well this is a treat for me,” he tweeted, now X. “Presenting #bbcsaturdaylive with the great @nikkibedi on @bbcradio4 for the next six weeks.”

Jon’s absence from BBC Breakfast comes amid the return of his co-star Sally after a short holiday abroad. The 52-year-old traveled to Spain last week to enjoy the last of his summer holidays before the start of the new term.
