Naga Munchetty hit back after a BBC Breakfast viewer made a particularly harsh remark on X, formerly known as Twitter. After Saturday’s show, in which the journalist covered the news in a black silk dress, one viewer tweeted: “@BBCBreakfast What is @TVNaga01 wearing?? Looks like she came straight to work from a night out at a sleazy single guy’s nightclub…”
Addressing user X directly, Naga promptly responded wittily, writing: “Sssssh… don’t tell anyone. (btw – it’s called a dress).” User X has since deleted the original tweet.

Inciting a reaction from her followers, many soon supported Naga. “I’ve been watching BBC Breakfast for the last 30 minutes and didn’t notice what any of the presenters were wearing. I was too busy listening to what they were saying,” replied one.

“What is it with people that they have to criticize what people wear? Are they so insecure about how they dress that they have to berate others? Naga, you have great taste in clothes, I wish I was that stylish,” added another.

Meanwhile, a third wrote: “Best journalist in the morning interviewing with an emphasis on transparency and informing the public! Well presented in every way – the male presenters never seem to have comments on their dressing? Umm…”
“Love all your outfits. Classiest host on TV and most articulate #hatersgonnahate,” tweeted a fourth.

It is not the first time that Naga has received criticism for her outfits BBC Breakfast, but whenever he does, he wears it like a pro. Speaking to the Radio Times, Naga said: “I get more comments than Charlie, but I also think it’s because men just wear suits, so there’s not much to complain about. Whereas I don’t wear suits and buy my own clothes. People inevitably they think they can comment on what I’m wearing.”

She also spoke about dealing with criticism in an interview with the Daily Mirror in 2016. “I’m on TV, I’m in your home, so if you want to criticize me, fine – but I’m not there to be abused,” she said.
“You don’t abuse someone while they’re doing their job and you don’t make racist, sexist or bigoted comments. If someone says, ‘She did a bad job at that interview, I left and I didn’t understand anything,’ I’d go back and re-examine that interview. Racist and sexist things , I just think, ‘You’re an idiot.'”
