Matt beamed in one snap as he cradled his little girl while in a hospital robe and head cover, while a second picture was of his little girl in her hospital cot with his mobile phone showing the Lionesses’ thrilling World Cup semi-final against Australia next to her.

He wrote: “It’s not often @BBCSport reporters miss England in a World Cup Semi final but my future lioness had other ideas!

“Our little IVF miracle arrived seconds after @ellatoone99 smashed in the opener and so managed to watch the 2nd half.”

“@Lionesses you have a new fan for the final!”

Matt’s BBC colleagues were quick to congratulate him, with BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty tweeting: “Fantastic win(s) for you!!! Congratulations! xx.”

Jon Kay added: “Massive congratulations. That’s fantastic.”

BBC News anchor Rita Chakrabarti also shared her delight, writing: “How lovely, many congratulations Matt!”

Matt’s arrival came during the gripping semi-final between the England Lionesses and World Cup co-hosts, Australia.

The Lionesses were able to make it through to Sunday’s final after winning the match 3-1.
