The presenter explained that she was diagnosed with the disease, but it was caught early and she expects to “make a full recovery”.
Lauren didn’t reveal what type of cancer she had, but said it was picked up during a screening test.
She said: “I was recently diagnosed with cancer. It was caught (thank God) early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I’m expected to make a full recovery.
“I am currently in hospital and I wanted to take this moment to thank: first of all the medical teams who have brought me here with incredible skill and kindness.
“To my family and friends who have been absolutely amazing every step of the way – I’m so grateful and I love you so much.
“And of course thanks to my colleagues… for their support and for giving me the free time I need to recover.”
Lauren urged her followers to come to any appointment or screening they are assigned because it could save a life.
She added: “If you’ve been avoiding testing or postponing your appointment, do it today.
“Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, the most important thing is to find out as soon as possible.”
Celebrity friends were quick to send their congratulations to Lauren on Wednesday.
Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor wrote: “Lots of love to you Lauren. We wish you a speedy recovery. Xxxx.”
Myleene Klass commented below Lauren’s post: “You’re amazing and you’ve been there every step of the way. Love you Lala x.”
Football legend Ian Wright and former X Factor host Dermot O’Leary also posted red love hearts in support.
Lauren became famous as the singer and guitarist of the rock group Kenickie in the 90s.
The group, which included Lauren, her brother Pete, Marie du Santiago and Emmy-Kate Montrose, broke up in October 1998 after a show at London’s Astoria.
Soon after, Lauren began working in radio and joined the BBC.
In 2005, after appearing on a pop TV show, she met her current husband and fellow DJ Graeme Fisher.
The couple have two children – Fergus James and Mack – and live in London.
