‘Beautiful little girl’, 6, who died in house fire is named as tributes flood in & schoolgirl, 14, arrested over ‘arson’ – The Sun

SINCERE tributes have been paid after a “beautiful” six-year-old girl died in a horrific fire at her home.

Chamiah Brindley tragically died after a fire ripped through a property in Bedale Drive, Leicester, at around 4am on Tuesday.

Devastated friends and local residents left flowers at the scene.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s a very close-knit community and many of us know the little girl who died, Chamiah Brindley.

“She comes from a big loving family with lots of brothers and sisters and went to a nearby primary school.

“She’s a beautiful little girl and her mom loves her. My heart goes out to all of them. It’s terrible what’s happening.

The woman added: “We don’t know how the fire started, but many of us were woken up by the sounds of screaming and commotion and engines rushing here.

“Some neighbors tried to help the family get to safety. There were scenes of hysteria.”

A fellow neighbor told how she was woken up by flames outside in the early hours.

She said: “It was about four in the morning and me and my husband were sleeping in a bed at the back of our house next door.

“I saw the light of the fire through the curtains and looked out the window and saw sparks flying from the house next door.

A neighbour, who knows the family, said: “I think the fire started in the upstairs room but I don’t know how it happened.

“Malena died, and her family is in shock.

“My husband spoke to her mum this morning. She’s devastated. It’s a terrible thing.”

Meanwhile, one tribute among cuddly toys at the venue read: “You’re the cutest, we’ll miss you.”

Another said: “Rest in peace beautiful little girl. Tragically taken too soon.”

Emotional messages of support have been shared online, with one reading: “I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s absolutely horrible. I can’t put into words what you must be feeling but you know where we are if needed take care x.”

“I’m so sorry for your loss, as a father I couldn’t imagine how you feel right now,” wrote another.

Another person who appeared to know the family said: “I am so sorry to hear this really sad news! Our thoughts and prayers are with you now.”

It came after emergency services were called to the horrific fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning, at 4.08am.

A number of people, including family members, were taken to hospital for treatment as a ‘precautionary measure’, Leicestershire Police said.

A fourteen-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident, and has since been released on bail.

A police spokesman said: “While an arrest has been made, detectives are open and working closely with colleagues from the fire service to establish all the circumstances leading up to the incident.”

Detective Inspector Michael Chandler said: “This is an extremely tragic incident where a person has unfortunately lost their life.”
