Ben Field News
This has been made possible thanks to the hard work of Southwater Parish Council, its skate park project reconstruction budget, Section 106 contributions and the insurance settlement obtained following the sad fire in August 2020.
The skate and BMX park has been an increasingly popular gathering place for fans since it opened in 2006. The skate park has become known for offering one of the best wooden surface riding experiences in the South.
The Parish Council maintained regular contact with the appointed User Advisory Committee and actively involved skate park users throughout the renovation project. Through their collaboration, the community’s needs and desires for a wooden riding surface were taken into consideration when designing the new park, which also included some cutting-edge features. An exciting riding experience is promised by the hybrid structure made of galvanized steel and wood, reminiscent of the attributes nurtured in the original skate park.
Although there have been difficulties along the way, such as delays in obtaining planning permission, the persistence of the Parish Council has paid off. Three years after the fire, the skate park once again stands tall and proud, ready to welcome riders of all ages and ability levels, reiterating its status as a beloved community asset and place of shared joy and pleasure.
The official opening of the skatepark on Monday was a wonderful joy and privilege, according to Southwater Parish Council chairman Derek Moore. The council’s efforts to make this happen are commendable; may the skatepark serve the neighborhood for a very long time.
