drag queen

She discovered the world of drag queens on a trip to Australia, where she attended her first drag show. The experience left a good impression on her, and it was during a conversation with drag queen Penny Sirone that she felt drag culture should be introduced to India. Through Christmas planning and discounts, she buys cosmetics not only for herself but also for her family to use to create drag looks in India. It was during the sixth anniversary celebrations of Kitty Su Delhi that Prateek began her transformation into a drag queen. Inspired by a performance by Violet Chachki (a drag queen), she decided to attend the event in drag, although she was nervous at first. Encouraged by her sister, she began to explore makeup techniques and further immersed herself in the world of drag through the film “Paris Is Burning” and the TV series “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” As she delved deeper into the world of drag, she honed her skills and experimented with her own drag personas. Her first performance was a surprise appearance at a sex education seminar at St. Columb’s School in Derry. Eager to show off her best moves, she took to the stage and received a positive response from the audience. Her journey continued when she wrote an article on drag for Youthkiawaaz, which caught the attention of Keshav Suri, who invited her to perform in Kitty Su. This marked the birth of Betta Naan Stop. Looking back on her early life, she revealed that she was a quiet child who never considered herself gay. Growing up, she would secretly cross-dress and experiment with makeup, but she never thought cross-dressing would become a career. Although it was difficult to find work as a male dancer, she still pursued her passion for dance and even took the time to participate in a dance scholarship program in Australia. Throughout her journey, she had the unwavering support of her family, especially her liberal mother and sister. Despite facing some challenges from extended family members who held different views, she remained true to herself and focused on her passion for drag. In 2017, he started experimenting with makeup, and at the end of the year, he performed for the first time at a queer workshop in Delhi, dancing to Ariana Grande’s “Greedy.” She said in an interview that drag entered her life at a critical moment when she was at a crossroads in her creative career. Dissatisfied with the lack of opportunities as a male dancer, she tried corporate jobs and even worked in a call center for a while. Through her performances, Prateek aims to use her platform to improve society and inspire others to embrace their authentic selves and follow their dreams.
