Bharati Achrekar is a veteran Indian theatre, film and television actress. She is famous for her role as Mrs. Wagle in the popular Hindi television series “Wagle ki Duniya” (1988) aired on DD National.

Profession
At the age of 17, she made her debut as a theater artist in the musical Dhanya Te Gayani Kala, playing the role of Tansen’s daughter. Later, she appeared in various Marathi plays and collaborated with several famous Indian theater artists.
She has appeared in several Hindi television serials such as “Aa Bail Muje Maar” (1987), “Kachchi Dhoop” (1987), “Wagle ki Duniya” (1988), “Sumit Sambhal Lega” (2015 ) and “Wagle Ki Duniya” – Nayi Pidi Naye Kisi (2021).
She appeared in many Hindi films such as “Apne Paraye” (1980), “Sanjog” (1985), “Chameli Ki Shaadi” (1986), “Eshwar” (1989) and “Coolie No. 1” (2020 ). She voiced the voice of Mrs. Deshpande (Ila’s neighbor) in the hit Hindi film The Lunchbox (2013).
Bharathi has appeared in several British films such as Little John (2001) and Flavor (2003).
She has also appeared in many Marathi films including Divasen Divas (2006), Saatchya Aat Gharat (2004), Valu (2008) and FU: Friendship Unlimited (2017) .

- In an interview, talking about her job as a television producer, she said:
I was the first person to join television as a producer in 1972. I’ve done several cultural gigs and every time an artist dies, I’m asked to put together an obituary that celebrates the life and times of that artist. It’s a very exciting time, but ultimately it’s a government job with a lot of restrictions. I started getting offers to perform again, so I decided to quit the job. “
- In her free time she enjoys cooking, traveling and watching TV series.
- She is a trained singer and has performed in the musical “Gaa Re Maa”.
- In an interview, she spoke about her greatest strength in life, saying,
My parents were the main driving force behind the freedom they gave us. They make us bloom. But my mother is the wind under my wings. My biggest regret with her is that I didn’t become a singer. I was a born singer and my mother really wanted me to follow in her footsteps. In fact, the last thing she said to me when she died was that she was deeply sorry that I hadn’t started singing. “
