Bhavatharini (daughter of music composer Ilaiyaraaja) passed away on January 25, 2024 in a hospital in Sri Lanka where she was undergoing treatment for liver cancer. She was in Sri Lanka with her husband for Ayurvedic treatment.
She was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2023 and then she went to Chennai for treatment, but when her health did not improve, she decided to take Ayurvedic treatment in Sri Lanka.
She and her husband went to Sri Lanka where she received Ayurvedic treatment, but her health deteriorated and she passed away on Thursday and her body was returned to Chennai on Friday. Her last rites were held in Chennai at her home.
Many celebrities and fans expressed their shock and grief over Bhavatharini’s death on social media, including Chief Minister MK Stalin, former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, actors R. Sarath Kumar and TTV Dhinakaran and VK Sasikala.
Singer Chinmay Sripaada described her as one of the most beautiful people she knew. Chief Minister MK Stalin said in a statement,
“The sudden death of Bhavatharini, who should have lived long to achieve several achievements in the world of music, is an irreparable loss to the music industry.”
