Bill Clinton, Elton John and More Stars Pay Tribute to Jimmy Buffett After His Death: ‘The King of Cool’

Jimmy Buffett’s celebrity friends remember him after his death.

Andy Cohen. Elton John, Bill Clinton and several other star friends paid tribute to the late singer-songwriter on Saturday, shortly after it was announced that he had died the night before at the age of 76.

“The King of Towers … heaven was wherever Jimmy Buffett was,” Cohen, 55, wrote alongside a picture of the musician on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“He was everyone’s friend and Paradise was wherever he was. Rest in peace sweet Jimmy. ❤️☀️🌊 🦜 🍔,” he added on Instagram of Buffett, who previously appeared on his Bravo program Watch what’s happening live.

Fellow TV host Hoda Kotb paid tribute with her post, saying Buffett “personified joy” and “embodied kindness.”

“Always smiling,” she wrote further x. “I remember the time he met my mom at jazzfest and showered her with love… like he’d known her his whole life. I bet he’s done that a million times to a million people. RIP.”

Sports analyst Pat McAfee, who covered the ESPN football game Saturday with Buffett’s signature hit, also toasted the star, noting that he “an absolute icon.”

“Jimmy Buffett’s music has brought happiness to millions of people,” wrote former US President Clinton (77), who experienced the singer performing for him during his stay in the Oval Office.

“I will always be grateful for his kindness, generosity and great performances over the years, including at the White House in 2000. My thoughts are with his family, friends and legions of devoted fans,” he continued.

Several fellow musicians have also been open about their connections with Buffett on social media, including Toby Keith, who shared two photos with Buffett and captioned it, “The pirate has passed.”

“A huge influence on a lot of us,” added Keith, 62, on X.

On his Instagram Story, John (76) remembers Buffet as a “unique and precious” entertainer.

“His fans adored him and he never let them down,” the music superstar added. “This is the saddest news. A wonderful man gone too soon. Condolences to Jane and family from David and myself.”

Donnie Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block also praised Buffett, writing in a post, “Jimmy Buffett was that guy! The coolest and one of the absolute nicest guys I’ve ever known.”

“I was so looking forward to seeing you and working with you again, Jimmy. Now I’m looking forward to catching the most heavenly sunset with you one day,” Wahlberg, 54, added. “My eternal respect and gratitude to you my friend. 🙏🏼❤️🕊️💫.”

Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller, who called Buffett a “legend,” used his platform to share a quote from the musician with healthy photo of the two of them hang out on the boat with other: “I cannot change the direction of the wind, but I can set my sails so that I always reach my destination.”

Kelly Slater, a famous pro surfer who said he “grew up listening” to Buffett, shared a lengthy Instagram post in which he reflected on meeting Buffett in France in 2010 — eight years after his father’s death.

While Slater, 51, noted that he had a “hard time” coming to terms with his friend’s death, he wrote that he felt “blessed to have some really amazing memories every time I hung out with him, whether it was him taking me to my brother’s bachelor party in Key West, joined us for surfing and dinner in Hossegor, made me play a song with him at his restaurant, or gave me his guest house in Palm Beach for the night and took me to a round of golf. the next day.”

Professional wrestling great Ric Flair also paid tribute to Buffett, who remembered their three-decade friendship with a touching behind-the-scenes photo.

“So sad to hear of the loss of my great friend Jimmy Buffett! 30 years of friendship! He was an amazing entertainer who made [world] better place! Thanks Jimmy! Rest in peace!” he said.

In his own statement, President Joe Biden remembered Buffett as “the poet of heaven.”

“Jimmy Buffett was an American music icon who inspired generations to step back and find joy in life and in each other,” he continued. “We’ve had the honor of meeting and getting to know Jimmy over the years, and he was alive when he was on stage – full of good will and joy, using his gift to bring people together.” Added Biden, “Jill and I send our love to his wife Jane of 46 years; to their children, Savannah, Sarah and Cameron; to their grandchildren; and to the millions of fans who will continue to love him even as his ship sails now towards new shores.”

Statement divided into both social media and Buffett’s website noted Saturday that he died “peacefully on the night of Sept. 1 surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.”

“He lived his life like a song until his last breath and will be missed by so many,” the statement read alongside a picture of Buffett sitting on a boat.

Buffett is survived by his wife Jane and children Savannah, Sarah and Cameron.
