Bill Hader and Ali Wong’s Relationship Timeline

Bill Hader and Ali Wong are putting their relationship in the spotlight.

After a short walk in late 2022, Saturday night live former student and Beef the actress rekindled their romance in April 2023 when they showed PDA in Los Angeles.

Since then, they’ve given a handful of glimpses into their relationship, including publicly sharing a kiss at the Golden Globes when Wong took home Best Actress in a Limited Series for Beef.

The two previously worked together in 2016 when they voiced the characters in the animated film The movie Angry Birds.

Before Hader, Wong was married to Justin Hakuta, with whom she shares two daughters. Meanwhile, Hader was recently linked to actress Anna Kendrick, whom he dated for nearly two years before splitting in 2022. Hader was also previously married to Maggie Carey from 2006 to 2017, and the couple have three children together .

In May 2016, Hader and Wong provided the voices for the characters in the animated film The movie Angry Birds. The film starred a number of other comedic actors, including Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Billy Eichner and others.

After eight years of marriage, Wong’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE that she and her husband are separating. “It is amicable and they will continue to be loving co-parents,” a source told PEOPLE at the time.

The comedian first met Hakuta at a friend’s wedding in 2010 and they hit it off immediately. After dating for several years, the couple married in San Francisco on November 27, 2014, and later welcomed two daughters, Mari in 2015 and Nikki in 2017.

June 2022: Bill Hader breaks up with Anna Kendrick

Later that year, Hader split from actress Anna Kendrick, with whom he had been in a relationship for nearly two years.

News of their romance first broke in January 2022, when a source told PEOPLE that Kendrick and Hader had been “quietly” seeing each other for over a year. The source added that they didn’t start dating until “well after” they finished filming the 2019 Disney Christmas movie. Noellein which they play siblings.

December 2022: Bill Hader and Ali Wong briefly dated before calling it quits

In Wong’s March 2023 contribution, s The Hollywood Reporterthe publication noted that the comedian was briefly linked to Hader in 2022, following her split from Hakuto.

Page six first reported Wong and Hader’s relationship in December 2022, noting that the comedians dated “for a very short time” before ending things. “They’re just very busy with things, but [the split] was certainly friendly. They’re definitely friends,” a source said at the time.

December 2023: Ali Wong files for divorce from Justin Hakuta

More than a year after announcing her split from Wong, the actress has officially filed for divorce from Hakuta. The Beef star cited “irreconcilable differences” in divorce documents obtained by PEOPLE and listed her separation date from Hakuta as April 10, 2022.

April 16, 2023: Bill Hader and Ali Wong rekindle their romance

In April 2023, Hader and Wong sparked rumors of a reconciliation after Hader mentioned his girlfriend during the season 4 premiere of his HBO series Barry. Although he did not mention Wong by name at the time, he said his partner encouraged him to take his first vacation in 10 years.

“I have to take a vacation,” the Saturday night live alumnus told PEOPLE about his busy schedule. “Yes. Yes. I have to go on vacation. My girlfriend and I were talking and she mentioned that I haven’t been on vacation in 10 years, so I think I have to go.”

Soon after, PEOPLE confirmed that Hader and Wong had reconnected after dating briefly in the fall.

April 19, 2023: Bill Hader and Ali Wong confirmed their relationship with a kiss

Days after Barry Premiere, Hader and Wong went public with their romance when they were photographed sharing a kiss while walking in Los Angeles. For the PDA-filled outing, Hader and Wong matched their outfits by wearing matching shoes — Hoka Anacapa Low GTX sneakers.

In September 2023, Hader and Wong were spotted holding hands after grabbing smoothies at Erewhon Market in Los Angeles. The pair kept it casual with Wong in a white T-shirt, athletic shorts and aviator sunglasses, and Hader in a black T-shirt, navy shorts and flip-flops.

As Wong took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in Beefshe was shown kissing Hader in the audience before making her way to the stage.

During her acceptance speech, she saluted her ex-husband, saying: “I really have to thank the father of my children and my best friend Justin for all your love and support. You make me a working mum.” (From the audience, an unfazed Hader shrugged in response to not being mentioned in Wong’s speech.)

After her time on the podium, Wong said Party tonight“I like to be peaceful, grateful and friendly” when it comes to the men in her life.

Hader and Wong were later seen hugging for photos while attending Netflix’s 2024 Golden Globes afterparty at Spago.
