Is an *NSYNC Reunion Coming? Here’s Why Fans Think ‘Trolls’ Brought the Band Back Together

If anyone is going to freak out over a *NSYNC reunion, it’s going to be me!

*NSYNC superfans believe the band may have reunited to record after a few Trolls Band Together posters were placed in New York with the first letter of the *NSYNC logo and a QR code.

Trolls Band Together is the third film in Trolls franchise, which stars Justin Timberlake — who sang for *NSYNC alongside Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone — as Branch, the title character. In 2016, he recorded “Can’t Stop the Feeing” for the first film and it became a #1 hit.

When fans scanned the QR code, it took them to this location. When you press “play”, a whistling melody is played.

The film’s trailer — which features hilarious boy band references — also slipped in this language significantly: “We’re out of sync. We’ve gone from boys to men, and now there’s only one direction we can go: back streets.”

The voice cast for the new film includes Camila Cabello, Eric André, Amy Schumer, Andrew Rannells, Troye Sivan, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi, Zosia Mamet, Zooey Deschanel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, RuPaul Charles, Aino Jawo, Caroline Hjelt, Kenan Thompson, Anderson Paak, Kunal Nayyar and Ron Funches.

If speculation is correct, this would be *NSYNC’s first release since 2002. After Timberlake, 42, left the group that same year to pursue a solo career and the group went on hiatus, they reunited for a performance at the 2013 VMAs .Then in 2016, they reunited at the Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony.

In March, PEOPLE spoke with the members of *NSYNC in honor of the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.

“We had five individuals who each took on the characteristics of the next guy, who took on your same characteristics, and then took on the characteristics of the next guy,” said Kirkpatrick, 51. “And by the way, Lance sings really low. Joey sings pretty low. JC he sings medium. Justin sings pretty high. Chris sings really high. Having that arch vocally, and the look… We really complemented each other so well in every aspect of what *NSYNC was, from personality to music to just hobbies to fashion sense, all those things.”

The individuals behind the record-breaking rock band also spoke about what led to the group’s commercial breakthrough and how, at the time of their US debut in ’98, they all had a little bit of each other in them.

“Everybody helped each other with that personality,” Fatone said. “Meaning, sometimes JC was very quiet about things. My stupid, stupid ass is open. It helped him come out of his shell a little more. Because I’m so dumb and stupid, I look at JC and say, ‘ S — you know what? I’ve got to get a little straighter and start being a little more serious.’ So we had these mutual combinations that helped each other.”

Trolls Band Together premiere in cinemas on 17.11.
