Billie Eilish and Brother Finneas Share Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Creation of One of Their Biggest Songs  

Billie Eilish shows why she and her brother Finneas O’Connell make a good team.

On Wednesday, December 11, Eilish, 22, posted an Instagram Reel of her and O’Connell, 27, who helps her write and produce the music, riffing on an early version of the song, “Birds of a Feather.”

“Feb 16, 2023 lil video about the beginnings of birds of a feather 😋😋,” Eilish captioned the post.

The video shows the duo discussing the lyrics to the chorus, which would eventually become: “Birds of a feather, we should stick together, I know (‘Til the day I die) / I said I’d never think I was’ better if I (‘ Until the light leaves my eyes) / I can’t change time, it might not be forever (‘Til the day I die) But if it’s forever, it’s even better.”

“I like that idea,” Eilish says as the two begin to put together the lyrics and O’Connell discusses how the song should be sung.

The song is from Eilish’s latest album, Hit me hard and softwhich was published in May.

The singer spoke candidly on Instagram about what the album meant to her after its release.

“Dude ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’ my 3rd album is j—– out now I don’t even know what to say…” Eilish wrote.

“@finneas and I put so much into this album and we’ve never loved anything more. We hope you enjoy it so much and see you on the other side EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HMHAS out there EVERYWHERE I LOVE YOU UNTIL DEAAAAAA!!! !😭😭😭, ” continued her description.

The album helped Eilish achieve seven nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards in categories such as Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

He is currently on a world tour in support of the album. The North American tour dates conclude with a show in Inglewood, California on December 21st. The tour continues in Australia in February 2025.
