The nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday
Billie Eilish is getting ready for her second Oscar nomination!
Shortly after the nominations for the 96th annual Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday, the pop star, 22, and her co-star/brother Finneas O’Connell spoke openly about how thrilled they were to receive a Best Original Song nomination for their Barbie attachment “What am I made for?”
The Grammy winner took to Instagram to share an adorable photo of herself hugging the film’s star/producer Margot Robbie, as well as a clip of a scene where the tender ballad plays in the film. On the occasion of the latter, the fraternal duo released a joint statement.

“We are incredibly honored to receive a nomination for ‘What Was I Made For?’,” the hitmaker’s statement began. “As lifelong fans of the film, the music in the film and the Academy Awards, this means everything to us. We are extremely grateful to the Academy, its members and to be recognized alongside so many songwriters whom we respect and admire.”
The singer-songwriters then expressed their gratitude to the team behind the hit movie, including Robbie, 33, Barbie director Greta Gerwig and her writing partner and husband Noah Baumbach.
“Our deepest gratitude goes out to the incomparable Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach for their brilliant vision and performance, the entire Barbie cast, Lucky Chap Entertainment and the Warner Bros. Pictures team,” they wrote.

The “Bad Guy” singer and O’Connell also thanked “What Was I Made For?” co-producers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who helmed Barbie soundtrack themselves received a nomination for best original song for “I’m Just Ken”. They continued: “Thank you to Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt for weaving our song so well into the fabric and heart of this film.”
The musicians concluded nicely by turning the spotlight back on Robbie (who was not nominated for Best Actress). “And a special shout out to Margot Robbie for her incredible foresight as a producer and brilliant performance that resonated deeply with us while writing this song,” the two added. “We are truly honored. Thank you.”
The Happier than ever The nomination for the artist and her brother comes two years after they won their first Oscar in 2022 for writing “No Time to Die” for James Bond the film of the same name.
Her bleak ballad of self-discovery from Barbie has been getting a ton of love this awards season — recently taking home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

“What was I made for?” was nominated for Best Original Song along with “I’m Just Ken,” Becky G and Diane Warren’s “The Fire Inside” Flamin’ Hot“It Never Went Away” by Jon Batiste from American Symphony and Killers of the Flower Moon“Wahzhazhe (Song for My People)”, with music and lyrics by Scott George.
Several other artists who were nominated shared how grateful they were to be recognized.
Ronson, 48, and Wyatt, 52, shared a statement with the Academy about their witty power ballad performed by Ryan Gosling, which earned them the nod. We are indescribably excited and grateful,” said the music producers. “This is truly the greatest honor bestowed by our peers and heroes from the Academy. And in a year of so many extraordinary songs — including those of our incredible colleague Barbie associates. This is proof of Greta Gerwig’s power to inspire and bring out the best in everyone around her. Thanks a lot.”

Batiste also made a statement to the Academy about his original song from his documentary about his journey writing the symphony while his wife Suleika Jaouad was diagnosed with cancer. “Thank you to the Academy for recognizing the song ‘It Never Went Away,'” said the Grammy winner. “Making music is an act of survival. It’s been a while since my wife Suleika was in the hospital and we’re not sure she’s going to make it. This song started out as a lullaby, so it could have a soothing aura in the hospital room.”
He continued: “Congratulations to my co-writer, Dan Wilson, and thanks to Netflix, Mercury Studios, Higher Ground and our brilliant director, Matthew Heineman, for sharing our story with the world. We are grateful to be surrounded by love.”
Becky G, meanwhile, took to Instagram to express how shocked she was at the news that her song from Eva Longoria’s directorial debut about the inventor of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos had received support.

The Latin star, 26, posted a handful of photos from the moment she found out about the nomination to her Instagram Story, as well as a teary-eyed, thoughtful video in which she thanked “The Fire Inside” songwriter Warren, 67, and its director . “This movie, this team, this song represents something so close to my heart — it’s my heart,” she said in the clip. “This is literally one of my dreams coming true in front of the world.”

In the caption, she further explained how overcome with emotion she was and talked about how honored she was to be a part of Flamin’ Hot. “When icons like Diana and Eve invite you to be a part of anything, YOU SAY YES OK???? Thank you for trusting me to bring part of this vision to life,” she wrote.

The 96th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be broadcast live on Sunday, March 10, from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California, beginning at 7:00 PM ET.
