Billy Crystal Returns to Katz’s Deli for the First Time Since Filming Iconic When Harry Met Sally Scene

Billy Crystal will have what she has.

Crystal, 75, recently visited Katz’s Delicatessen 35 years after filming the iconic NSFW scene for When Harry met Sally. The actor was followed by CBS’s Gayle King during his first visit to New York after filming the infamous movie.

In the 1989 rom-com, Meg Ryan’s character Sally fakes an orgasm while dining at Katz’s Deli, to the horror and astonishment of Harry and other diners.

Billy Crystal has been making audiences laugh for almost half a century, and now he's a Kennedy Center Award winner. He sat down with host Gayle King to reflect on his incredible career and returned to Katz's Deli for the first time since filming When Harry Met Sally

“Harry and Sally’s desk” is still there and is clearly marked with a large sign that reads “Where Harry met Sally… I hope you have what she had!” A silly sign references the iconic quote after Sally finishes her loud fake orgasm and another customer at Katz tells the waiter, “I’ll have what she’s eating.”

King invoked the same quote when ordering at the deli counter: “I want to have what Sally had that day,” and the 46th Kennedy Center honoree ordered the same thing.

After she sits down, Crystal tells King how being a part of “a little piece of history here in New York” is “amazing.”

Despite the film being released decades ago, the actor says the film is becoming more important as time goes on. People fall in love every day. People fall out of love every day. People find each other, they lose each other every day. And new generations are finding When Harry met Sally They keep discovering it, and we are forever young in that movie. And we represent them. They’re connected to us,” Crystal said.

His rom-com co-star mentioned the iconic scene earlier this month. Ryan playfully grilled his costar when Crystal was being recognized at the 46th Kennedy Center Honors.

During her speech, Ryan (62) referred to a familiar scene. “The scene felt very natural to me, and I really have Billy to thank for that,” Ryan said. “Actually, I’ve never been around someone who made it easy for me to fake an orgasm. Well, thank you, Billy.”

She added: “As his wife of more than 50 years, Janice, has known, falling in love with Billy is pretty easy.”

Ryan wasn’t the only one praising Crystal. President Joe Biden honored each of the honorees, starting with Crystal.

“You can walk a few blocks in New York and you can go around the Earth in just a few blocks. Eight million people of all backgrounds in the majority – in the most vibrant city, arguably, in America. And that’s just one guy that makes everybody stop and laugh, Billy Crystal,” Biden said.

“Billy grew up cleaning the floor in his family’s music store on 42nd Street and became America’s most celebrated comedian, actor and writer on screen and stage,” the president continued. “What I admire most about him is his heart – his heart that reminds us to love and care for each other – raising awareness and funds to eradicate cancer, fight homelessness, help rebuild the city after 9/11 and Superstorm Sandy and more a lot of it .”
