Bindiya Goswami is an Indian former actress, known for her work in Hindi films of the 1970s and 1980s. The actress is famous for her role as Urmila Shankar in the 1979 Bollywood film Golmaal.

Bindiya Goswami was born on Saturday, January 6, 1962 in Karman, Bharatpur (Rajasthan) (age 60 years; as of 2022). As a child, she aspired to become a flight attendant like her older sister, Pearl. However, her life took a major turn at the age of fourteen, when she attended a party at the house of her neighbor, the composer Pyarelal, and Hema Malini’s mother Jaya Chakravarti noticed Bindi Ya Goswami looks a lot like Hema Malini. Thereafter, Jaya Chakravarthy suggested the producers of the film Jeevan Jyothi (1976) to cast Bindiya in the film. Later, on the recommendation of Jaya Chakravarthy, she also got a role in the film Mukti (1977). In an interview, Bindya talked about Jaya Chakravarthy’s role in launching her acting career. she says,
Jayaji was known to protect Hemaji. My mother felt that I would also be in safe hands. Jayaji is full of energy. Her kajal bhari eyes and quiet presence are mesmerizing.

I have taught her what to do and what not to do in life. How she moves forward in life and pursues her dreams is her own. But I told her not to be disappointed if her movie doesn’t work. Some of JP’s films may not have been successful, but they were part of the film university syllabus. ”

Bindiya Goswami started her acting career with the film Jeevan Jyoti (1975).
Within a year of her debut, she was cast in the film Mukti (1977) directed by Raj Tilak. “Jeevan Jyoti”, a remake of the Telugu film “Muthyala Muggu” (1975), failed, while “Mukti” (1977) was a hit.

Bindya’s looks and performance attracted the director. She played the female lead in several of Basu Chatterjee’s hit films such as Khatta Meetha (1978) and Hamari Bahu Alka (1982). She is widely acclaimed for her role in the hit Khatta Meetha in the 1970s and 1980s. Bindiya Goswami later played the role of Urmila Shankar in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film Golmaal; the role turned out to be the best role of her career.
In 1980, she starred in the film Shaan directed by Ramesh Sippy. She appeared in many Hindi films with Vinod Mehra such as Dada (1979), Jaandhar (1979), Mukapura (1979) and Hooddahl” (1982).
After Bindya married Vinod Mehra in 1979, her acting career began to decline. The reason behind this is that Vinod Mehra is already married to Meena Brocka.
