He fell behind 2-1 to Snakebite in the quarterfinals with 121.

He was aiming for 25, but he hit the ball, forcing him to rethink his strategy to knock out 71.

Wright then hit a triple 13 before closing out the stretch with a double 16.

Referee Russ Bray awarded the leg, but viewers and even commentators were convinced it was wrong.

That’s because the 52-year-old Scotsman appeared to narrowly miss his triple 13, when in reality he only managed a single 13.

However, on closer inspection, what looks like an arrowhead that has fallen into the black is actually a flight up, with the arrow planted safely and firmly in the red.

Sky Sports commentator Rod Studd said: “Treble 13 is a likely target. That was the goal, but it didn’t reach it.”

He then realized his mistake and quipped, “I have to get my eyes checked.”

Many darts fans watching at home were also confused.

One said: “This is not in the top three in my opinion… VAR!”

Another wrote: “No way did that reach the highest 13! I don’t know how everyone missed that.”

And a third added: “That obviously didn’t hit T13. 😂”

Despite an incredible effort to get back to 2-2, world No. 2 Wright lost 6-3.

Masters champion Dobey then beat Nathan Aspinall 6-4 in the semifinals and stunned Michael van Gerwen with a spectacular 160 checkout to claim victory in the first round of the 2023 season.
