Spring has arrived, and now it’s time for a summer wardrobe refresh!
Old Navy tapped Black-like Costars Tracee Ellis Ross and Yara Shahidi to help inspire a summer refresh — the two star in the clothing retailer’s new campaign for the season. Wearing some of the colorful trends you’ll find in stores (and eventually in their closets), the two bring their charm and effortless style to the campaign for this mini-reunion, two years after Black-like wrapped.
“I had fun,” Ross, 51, said of reuniting with Shahidi. “It’s been a minute. When you’ve worked with someone for a long time, there’s an ease in how you work and a comfort. I should say thank you, Old Navy, for bringing this little duo back together.”
“I think the best part is noticing how similar our instincts are at certain times… or when other people notice our twin mannerisms!” – added 24-year-old Shahidi.

The pair, who starred in the show from 2014 to 2022, know a lot about each other — and that’s the result of years of close collaboration.
Ross recalled a conversation years ago in which she gave the young Shahidi — whom she calls one of the “smartest, most socially engaged” people — beauty advice she still thinks is pretty wise.
“I just remembered an early conversation,” Ross said. “I remember telling Yara very early on, ‘Don’t let anyone ruin your brows. You have the most beautiful brows. Don’t let anyone talk you into doing something sculpted.’ Because they frame her beautiful face so beautifully.”

For her part, Shahidi points to Ross as someone she looks up to in the industry because of her “energy” and ability to embrace others.
“You’ve given yourself so many ways to figure out how to be fully present in spaces, big and small,” Shahidi told Ross. “But I think that extends to the other thing, which is looking at you as an actor, looking at you as a producer and as a person. Your priority is to make sure people have the space to be who they are.”

In Old Navy’s new summer campaign, Ross and Shahidi are set in a breezy California setting that lends itself to Old Hollywood glamor — and that sets the tone for the new collection. Ross wears monochromatic bedding while Shahidi wears sportswear, each in her own style.
Through two new commercials — and pieces of the campaign appearing on Old Navy’s social media — new chief creative officer Zac Posen’s whimsical vision is brought to life through these stars. And through clothes, of course!
