Bob Barker’s Girlfriend Nancy Burnet Looks Back on Her ‘Charmed Life’ with the Late Host on His 100th Birthday

Bob Barker’s long-time partner of 40 years, Nancy Burnet, reflects on her decades-long relationship with the late TV host on his 100th birthday.

Burnet shares with Party tonight that her late partner – who died on August 26 aged 99 – would have enjoyed and joked that he had reached 100.

“He would just say, ‘100, I can’t believe it,'” she said Tuesday, adding that he would joke, “And I’m as cute as I’ve ever been.”

Burnet also shared what she misses most about her ex The price is right the host is his sense of humor. “We had a very similar sense of humor about things. Pretty dry humor,” Burnet said. “I guess we’re just chatting [too]. He had a really wonderful, charming life.”

The couple first met in March 1983 at an animal adoption event Barker hosted. Burnet, an activist involved in animal legislation, heard about Barker’s event and hoped it would help raise awareness of a proposal she had to stop pet stores from selling chickens and ducklings around Easter.

Burnet previously told PEOPLE that while Barker was already a major TV star, she didn’t watch daytime television. “I really knew next to nothing about him,” she explained. “I knew it was The price is right. I knew he was interested in animals and had the format to get the word out.”

In his interview with ET, Burnet recalled, “That first day, he came up to me … and said, ‘Hi, I’m Bob Barker. Are you here to adopt a dog?’ I said no and ended up adopting the dog anyway. He was the last one. He didn’t want to go back to his cage, so of course I took him with me. And then he invited me to dinner that day.”

But Burnet declined his offer, telling him she couldn’t because she was driving her friends to the event, so “it would have to be another time.” Burnet recalled that Barker was persistent and told her, “Have your friends drive your car home and I’ll drive you home.”

Although Barker’s attempt at a first date didn’t go entirely smoothly, the two eventually hit it off and began a relationship that spanned four decades. At the time of their first interaction, both Barnet and Barker did not want to marry. (Barker’s wife, Dorothy Jo Gideon, had died two years earlier of lung cancer in 1981.)

Barnet said that at the beginning of their relationship, they discussed the possibility of remarriage. “He said no, and I said, perfect, because I don’t have either. We can move forward. Well, that went on for a while, and then he ended up proposing — many times — over the years,” she said. ET.

During the multiple proposals, Barker worked with a lawyer in 2011 to draft a prenuptial agreement in case Barnet agreed.

“He had his lawyer draw up a prenuptial agreement without talking to me about it beforehand, but he had it drawn up by a well-known lawyer in LA, prepared and sent to me,” she explained to the news outlet. “He just wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
