The interior designer also has “a handful of projects” in the works

Bobby Berk remains on friendly terms with his ex A strange eye fellow actors.

On Monday, the 42-year-old interior design expert announced his departure from the Netflix series.

“Bobby’s departure is unrelated to his relationships with his castmates,” a source close to the situation tells PEOPLE exclusively. “The parting was amicable.”

For the past eight seasons, Berk has joined castmates Karam Brown, Tan France, Antonio Porowski and Jonathan Van Ness in an unscripted makeover series. The A strange eye reboot launched in 2018, with episodes where the Fab Five travel across the US

A source exclusively confirms to PEOPLE that Berk “has a handful of projects in development and is also busy with his company.”

“With today’s release date of the new season (8) of Queer Eye… Heartbroken that season 8 will be @bobby’s last on Queer Eye! He is magic in what he designs and how he makes us all feel. #ForeverTheFab5,” he wrote.

The A strange eye decor guru wrote a heartfelt letter “the A strange eye A community that has become a family to me” on Monday when he announced that he will exit the series after the upcoming season.
