Creating a podcast with a “longtime” friend was an obvious choice for Bobby Flay.
The Food Network star joined Kristin Cavallari on her podcast, Let’s be honestOctober 29. The episode was littered with dating stories from the two newlyweds — including a DM disaster between Flay and Cavallari — and fans were quick to comment on the “chemistry” between the two.
“I see that connection,” one fan wrote on an Instagram video of the podcast. Another commented: “A power couple.”
When asked about the headline-grabbing interview, Flay let out a heartless laugh.
“I mean, there wasn’t a whole lot there,” he said Defeated Bobby Flay the host tells PEOPLE with a laugh. “Kristin and I have been friends for a long time, so I called her and said, ‘I want to do your podcast. I think it’s going to be fun.’”
“I love her energy, and I also have a lot of respect for her as a business woman,” she continues. “She’s fun. She’s a baller, she’s a mom, she’s got three kids. She runs her jewelry business, she runs her podcast business, she runs her whole Kristin Cavallari life and she does it incredibly well.”

Between book signings and culinary-focused interviews, Flay gravitated toward Laguna Beach alum’s project: “I thought it would be a fun podcast and something a little different than some of the others I’ve done that are really food-based,” he said.

Dining was still discussed during Let’s be honest episode, but dating was the biggest part of the interview.
PEOPLE first reported Flay’s split from writer Christina Pérez in June. Cavallari had her own breakup in September after dating TikToker Mark Estes for seven months.
“If I wanted to date again, what would I do? I don’t want to go to [dating] applications,” he told Cavallari, “because then it becomes a public matter.”

Flay said: “I’m a very private person with my private life. Other people like to talk about my private life, I don’t because the rest of my life is so public, because I’ve been on television basically my whole adult life. That’s why I like to keep as much of my private life to myself as possible.”
Cavallari asked Flay if the marriage was “totally out of the question,” and he replied, “Is it out? If you asked me today, I’d probably say, yes.” But the cookbook author clarified: “I would certainly be interested in a life partner.”
