Petrino, however, took the head coaching job and a five-year/$24 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons less than six months into his new contract. Bobby retired from the Falcons after just thirteen games. he then negotiated a five-year, $2.85 million per year contract with Arkansas, which was then extended to seven years before signing.

However, his contract was terminated due to an adulterous affair with an employee of the athletic department. After that, he joined Western Kentucky, signing a four-year contract with an annual base salary of $850,000 and $1.2 million guaranteed. Petrino was sent to Louisville for the second time. This time he was offered $24.5 million over seven years with a $10 million buyout.

After Louisville, he signed a five-year contract with Missouri State that paid him $250,000 a year. Petrino received a one-year contract and a $25,000 raise shortly after reaching the playoffs. After just one season, the football coach left Missouri State to become the offensive coordinator at UNLV. However, the newly recruited UNLV offensive coordinator quickly joined Texas A&M. Bobby Petrino agreed to a two-year contract that will begin Dec. 3 and run through Feb. 28, 2026. Petrino will be paid $350,000 through the end of February, after which the new contract year begins. He will receive $1.5 million in 2024 and $1.6 million in 2025. The incentive payouts range from $20,000 for winning the SEC title to $125,000 for winning the national championship. A $2,000 Nike gear stipend, membership to one of two nearby country clubs and a $7,200 car allowance are included.
