The much-loved chaplain, known to many as Katie, starred in the popular TV series Geordie Hospital.
Police have now confirmed that the body was found in the Jesmond Dene area of the city.
Official identification has yet to be carried out, but the body is believed to belong to mum-of-two Katie.
Officers do not believe a third party was involved and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.
Chief Constable Darren Adams, from Northumbria Police, said: “This is an incredibly sad outcome and our thoughts are with Katherine’s loved ones at this difficult time.
“We will continue to support them in any way we can and ask that their privacy be respected.
“Thank you to everyone who shared our appeals, provided information and supported our search for Katherine.”
A massive search has been launched for Katie after she went missing yesterday wearing a green hat, dark trousers and a hooded top and a rucksack.
Police said her disappearance was not “unusual” and they were “increasingly concerned for her welfare”.
Katie was presented at Geordie Hospital, which followed the outstanding work of NHS staff in Newcastle hospitals.
She is noted for her role as chaplain at RVI and Freeman.
A retired doctor who worked with her wrote a heartfelt message on social media after her shocking disappearance.
They said: “For many of us in Newcastle hospitals she has been our rock during the worst parts of the Covid pandemic.”
Another described her as “one of the most wonderful women I’ve had the pleasure of knowing.”
Katie served as a veteran of the Royal Military Police and worked in conflict zones such as the Balkans and Northern Ireland.
She joined the army at the age of 18 and completed basic training at the Army Women’s Training Center in Guildford.
The veteran was selected to attend the commissioning course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was commissioned in August 1997.
In 2002 she left the army and trained with Humberside Probation service.
She joined the Newcastle team in 2007 on a long stint and eventually stayed on before being appointed head of chaplaincy for the foundation in 2020.
Katie spoke fondly of her role last year, telling the NHS: “No two days are the same, which means I never know what a shift will bring. I spend a lot of time traveling with patients, relatives and staff, whether it’s on the wards or in the chapel vacation.
“I have the privilege of being with people in the best and worst of times.
“I enjoy coming to work every day and am proud to be part of a team that values and supports me. As a former military officer, I especially recognize how being part of this Foundation reflects my experience of good leadership and a strong team ethos.”
Katie said in her spare time she is qualified as an inshore rescue boat coxswain and enjoys long distance running and speed packing.
The Channel 4 star has two children with her longtime partner.
