A massive search involving police, ambulance and coastguard crews has been launched in the Firth of Forth.
Despite the efforts of rescue teams, it collapsed on Tuesday evening.
But the woman’s body was found in the Hound Point area of South Queensferry, near Edinburgh, on Saturday afternoon.
Police said formal identification had yet to be carried out, but added: “The family of missing woman Jenny Hastings have been informed.”
Police treated her disappearance as a “high-risk missing person case.”
Jenny’s heartbroken family had previously issued a statement amid fears she was dead.
They said: “It seems she wanted to end her suffering in a place that was familiar and healing to her.
“She loved the water, but unfortunately her mind was not in a safe place.
“The Hastings family are absolutely heartbroken. We miss our Jenny.
“She leaves a gaping hole in all of our hearts and we hope that she will return safely to us so that we can celebrate her extraordinary life.”
Scottish Rugby released a statement on social media yesterday which read: “Scottish Rugby sends its love and support to Scott Hastings, Scotland cap 848, after his wife Jenny was reported missing while swimming earlier this week.
“Our thoughts are with their children and the wider Hastings family at this heartbreaking time.”
Jenny has previously opened up about her mental health issues.
She told how she struggled with depression when she tried to take her own life in 2014 and when she disappeared for more than 24 hours a few years later.
Both Scott and Jenny have become ambassadors for the charity Support in Mind Scotland and have dedicated themselves to working to help others with their own mental health.
They helped launch the 100 Streets Challenge to help people improve their mental health through exercise.
Scott Hastings won more than 65 caps for the Scottish rugby team and is one of the best ever players in the national team.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At approximately 3.20pm on Saturday 7 September 2024, the body of a woman was found in the Hound Point area of South Queensferry.
“Official identification has yet to be carried out but the family of missing woman Jenny Hastings have been informed.
“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Attorney General.”
