The Hungarian woman, who spoke little English, was last seen wearing a medium-length cream coat with a fur hood.

Officers have confirmed that they tragically found a body during a search earlier today.

Greater Manchester Police said initial inquiries indicated there were suspicious circumstances surrounding Marianna’s death.

A 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Marianne’s family has been informed and they are receiving support from specialist officers.

Chief Superintendent Helen Critchley, from our Bolton district, said: “This is a tragic development in our extensive search for Mariann, which we desperately hoped would not happen so close to Christmas. Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.

“We now continue to work hard to establish all the circumstances to provide answers and seek justice for this woman as our inquiries develop.

“We would like to thank members of the local Bolton community who have spoken to our officers and tried to help us in our search since last week, which has included sharing our appeals.”
