Boy, 17, dies & teen, 18, fighting for his life after ‘falling off vehicle’ as cops hunt motorbike ‘removed from scene’

A TEENAGER has died and another is fighting for his life in hospital after a motorbike crash, with police launching an urgent investigation.

Police rushed to the scene at 6.25pm ​​yesterday after reports of two men getting off a motorbike at the junction of Hoole Road and Grass Wood Road in Merseyside.

A 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Woodchurch, Wirral, police said.

The 18-year-old was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Merseyside Police said other men were present when the fatal incident took place.

The police officers add that they are still looking for the motorcycle that disappeared from the scene.

The force announced that an investigation to determine the circumstances of this incident has been launched and is at a very early stage.

Police officers are appealing for any witnesses, video surveillance footage and surveillance cameras that could help their investigation.

Inspector Ian Cowell, of the Police Roads Service, said: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of a teenager’s life and our thoughts are with his family.

“Another young man also sustained significant injuries and is currently in a critical condition in hospital.

“We believe there were other men who were with them at the time of the crash and we are trying to locate them to see if they have any information.”

“When officers arrived the vehicle involved in the collision, which we believe was a motorcycle, had been removed and as part of our inquiries we will attempt to locate this vehicle.”

The road where the incident happened has been closed and police have stepped up patrols in the area “to carry out initial inquiries and establish exactly what happened”, Merseyside Police said.

The police officers called on all potential witnesses to come forward.

“If you live in the area or were driving past it at the time, please review your CCTV to see if you captured anything, even if it seems small or insignificant, as it could be vital to our investigation,” added Cowell .

The police have informed the victim’s family and are providing support.
