Brad, Brian and Rich Cronin were the original members of LFO (Lyte Funkie Ones). The group formed in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1995. The group first rose to fame with Yvonne Elliman’s If I Can’t Have You, and in 1997 they released a cover of Step By Step.
Devin Lima joined the other guys when Brian left LFO in 1999 to focus on a solo music career. The only remaining member of the LFO gang is Brad. Rich passed away in 2010 from leukemia, while Devin lost his battle with cancer in 2018.
Brad, who is still active in the music industry, made it a point to preserve the legacy of his favorite boy band as a way to honor Devin and Rich. Last year, Brad went on a brief memorial tour for his former bandmates, performing in Pittsburgh, Washington, Long Island and New York.
Then Brad said on Instagram: “We are going to tell the story of LFO from 1974, the year Rich was born, to the present day. We’ll be playing era specific music, music that inspires and all your #LFO favourites. We will share personal anecdotes of LFO travel in a friendly and private setting, he continued. The LFO website still has tickets and VIPs available.
In 2019 and 2020, Brad embarked on such short tours in memory of LFO and his bandmates. He paid tribute to Brian in a moving message, writing: “Today I pay tribute to my former bandmate and friend, Brizz. You would know what Brian meant to LFO if he watched the LFO Story webcast or if he heard the band and I performed them in person.
The first two chapters of LFO, which you’ve come to know and (hopefully) love, wouldn’t exist without their labor of love and dedication in the early days of LFO. The band’s hit Summer Girls was on their self-titled debut album, which had 13 tracks and was released in 1999. The Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit included Summer Girls and Girls on TV.
One of the band’s most popular songs, Summer Girls, sold more than 1.5 million copies in the US and was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for best-selling single of the year.
