Bridgerton Family Tree: Meet the Characters from the Hit Netflix Series

The Bridgerton family tree includes two parents, eight children, and an overarching love story for each sibling.

The Bridgerton the series has been a Netflix hit since its premiere in 2020, even spawning a successful spinoff inspired by royal history, Queen Charlotte: The Bridgerton Story2023 However, fans were first introduced to the Bridgerton family long before they hit the small screen.

The popular series is based on Julia Quinn’s series of romance novels, which chronicle the love stories of eight Bridgerton siblings growing up in the Regency era. Although the Bridgerton brood is large, her characters’ names are in alphabetical order: the oldest Bridgerton sibling has a name that begins with an “A,” Anthony, and the eighth and youngest sibling’s name begins with an “H,” Hyacinth.

But while it’s a useful mnemonic device, viewers don’t just have to contend with keeping those high-society siblings in line while watching. There are also questions about which characters appear in each season of the show, recognition of the actors who play them, and awareness of sibling love interests.

The latest season Bridgertonwhich started showing on the 16 May 2024, follows the third sibling, Colin (played by Luke Newton), as he falls in love with neighbor Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).

Viscount Edmund Bridgerton

The late patriarch of the family is Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. He shared eight children with his wife Violet, although he never met his youngest, Hyacinth. The Viscount died of an allergic reaction to a bee sting, which featured in Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma’s love story.

The Viscount, portrayed by Rupert Evans, only appeared in the 2nd season of the series during flashback scenes.

Lady Violet Bridgerton

The matriarch of the Bridgerton family is Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell). The proud mother appears in every season of the series, and also appeared in the 2023 spinoff. Queen Charlottewhich featured the character as both an adult and a teenager (played by Connie Jenkins-Greig).

Violet was married to the late Edmund, 9th Viscount Bridgerton, with whom she shares her eight children.

Anthony Bridgerton

Violet and Edmund’s eldest child is Anthony, who became 9th Viscount Bridgerton on his father’s death. He had to take on all the responsibilities associated with the title change, including helping to find suitors for his siblings almost immediately after Edmund’s death.

Anthony has been played by Jonathan Bailey since the first season.

The second season of the series, which premieres in 2022, is based on Quinn’s novel The Viscount who loved me and focused on his courtship and eventual marriage to his wife Kate (Simone Ashley).

Benedict Bridgerton

The second oldest Bridgerton brother is Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson. Benedict’s interests include painting and partying, and in the second season he is accepted into an art school.

In Quinn’s book series, Benedict is the main subject of the third novel — An offer from a gentleman — although it has yet to be announced when it will be adapted for the small screen.

Colin Bridgerton

Colin Bridgerton is the third child and third son of Violet and Edmund. In the first season of the Netflix series, he showed romantic interest in Penelope’s cousin Marina (Ruby Barker) before she married someone else.

The third season is based on Quinn’s fourth novel, Romantic Mr. Bridgerton, and shows how his friendship with Penelope turns into a romance. At the end of Part 1, Colin and Penelope were seemingly engaged.

Daphne Bridgerton

The family’s eldest daughter, Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), was the focus of the first season, based on Quinn’s first Bridgerton a book, The duke and me. Over the course of eight episodes of the season, she falls in love with Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page). Daphne and Simon also welcomed their son August at the end of the season.

In the second season, however, Daphne was not included in all the episodes and Simon did not appear at all. (Breakout star Page decided to leave the show). Neither Daphne nor Simon appear in the third season.

Eloise Bridgerton

Violet and Edmund’s fifth child and second daughter, Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), is the black sheep of the family: she is not interested in social rules or events, and is threatened by the idea of ​​marriage.

She would rather spend her time hanging out with her best friend Penelope and trying to uncover the identity of the mysterious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown. Bridgerton’s sixth child, Francesca Bridgerton, has only played a minor role in the Netflix series so far — and has been played by multiple actresses.

In the first season, it was said that Francesca was visiting her aunt. Then, in Season 2, the actress who played the sixth Bridgerton sibling, Ruby Stokes, had to cut out part of the shoot due to scheduling conflicts with her lead role on the show Lockwood & Co.

Francesca appears in the third season and is played by a new actress, Hannah Dodd. It is also the topic of the sixth Bridgerton a book, When he was evil.

Gregory Bridgerton

The youngest Bridgerton boy is Gregory Bridgerton, played by Will Tilston.

As one of the youngest members of the family, Gregory is mostly shown in the background of scenes or playing with his younger sister Hyacinth.

Hyacinth Bridgerton

Hyacinth, the youngest Bridgerton sibling, is portrayed by Florence Hunt. She is the only Bridgerton child who never met her father because Violet was pregnant with her when he died.

As with Gregory, Hyacinth has not been a part of the main drama so far, but is shown teasing her older siblings. The seventh novel of the series, It’s in His kissfocuses on Hyacinth’s love story.
