Bridgerton star Ruby Stokes first look at creepy new drama following show cancellation

Bridgerton and Lockwood & Co star Ruby Stokes will star in the new series – and she looks great. The actress, who recently played Lucy in the canceled Netflix series, will star alongside Samantha Morton in The Burning Girls.

The Paramount+ series is a horror film that follows Samantha as Pastor Jack Brooks and Ruby as Flo, her 15-year-old daughter, as they arrive at a bleak village haunted by a black history dark and chaotic, hoping for a new beginning.

They quickly find a village full of intrigue and secrets, where the discovery of a potentially deadly truth in a community with a bloody past… Jack is a single mother haunted by… tragedy from her former church and carry the burden of her husband’s death, while 15-year-old daughter Flo is a teenager who he marches to the beat of his own drum.”

Talking about the role, Ruby said: “It was a pleasure to work with such a talented and dedicated cast and crew. Personal highlights; playing opposite Sam, who I really admire.”

Samantha added: “I was immediately drawn to this character-driven script, brought to life by an incredibly talented and dedicated cast. On the surface, The Burning Girls is about community, but underneath it’s every man for himself. Untangling this tangled web is an absolute thrill.

The synopsis reads: “The story of The Burning Girls begins when Protestants – including two young girls – were betrayed and burned at the stake 500 years ago. Two teenage girls then disappeared without a trace from Chapel Croft thirty years ago, and just a few weeks ago the vicar of the local parish hanged himself in the nave of the church.

Psychological horror combines with the mystery of a small town in the story of a troubled pastor who desperately chases away the demons of his past and finds peace in his new home. The more Jack and Flo explore Chapel Croft’s past, the deeper they become drawn into the ancient rifts, mysteries, and suspicions of this island village.”

Ruby’s new show comes shortly after the sad news that Lockwood & Co. has been canceled by Netflix. The actress previously played Francesca in Bridgerton before taking on the role. At the time, presenter Chris Van Dusen said: “I loved Francesca, but we lost her in the middle of the second season. After exhausting all other options, she unfortunately had to leave because reasons beyond our control.”

Speaking about it herself, the star told What to Watch: “There was something about Lucy that told me. It was an opportunity to explore a very different character and I learned a lot while playing the role. a young man at the top of the program. I just felt it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down!”
