The Jet2 plane made an emergency landing in Cologne, Germany.

But as Chris was being led down the steps of the plane, he collapsed.

The father-of-two, who was traveling with his sons Archie (8) and Robin (19), is feared to have suffered a heart attack.

Funds are now being raised for Chris’ heartbroken family to repatriate his body and pay for his funeral.

Chris’s family said his travel insurance had lapsed without renewal.

The GoFundMe page reads: “It will cost around £12,000 to £15,000 to bring him home, which his parents simply don’t have.

“Please help bring Chris home for the sake of his parents and children.

“Thank you from all of Chris’ family and friends.”

So far, well-wishers have donated more than £4,500 towards the £15,000 target.

Chris was flying from the city of Bourgas in Bulgaria to Liverpool John Lennon Airport on September 16 when he became ill.

Despite the best efforts of the ship’s crew and paramedics, Chris could not be saved.

A Jet2 spokesman said: “We can confirm that flight LS3214 from Bourgas to Liverpool John Lennon was diverted to Cologne on Monday 16 September due to a customer requiring medical attention.

“Unfortunately, we can confirm that the customer has unfortunately passed away.

“We would like to express our sincere condolences to the client’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
