A BRITISH Airways pilot was kidnapped and tortured while shopping alone on a layover between flights.
The first officer was approached by a woman in the supermarket parking lot and asked him to help her carry her bags to her car.

But when they reached the vehicle, a group of men forced him inside.
The unnamed pilot was taken to a remote area of Johannesburg where he was “severely abused”.
He ended up handing over “thousands and thousands of pounds”.
He was unable to fly the plane back to London from Johannesburg and a replacement had to be cashed in.
The pilot was absent from work after the ordeal, and was supported by his colleagues.
A source said: “It’s astonishing what happened to the pilot.
“It was like from the movies.
“He fell for the scam of agreeing to help a woman in need, and before he knew it, it was wrapped in a vehicle and driven away.
“Then he endured hours of torture and physical attacks.
“It only ended when he ran out of money.
“He’s just happy to be alive.
“The incident shook the crew.”
The airline bans staff from certain parts of the city.
But the crew hotel is in Melrose Arch – meant to be the safest area.
A BA alert to staff said: “A crew member has been abducted outside the Checkers Bluebird supermarket north of the Melrose Arch complex.”
British Airways told The Sun: “We are supporting our colleagues and local authorities in their investigation.”
