His involvement comes after his efforts to launch his own bank, Burnley Savings and Loans, featured in two popular documentaries.

A source said: “Dave is a real community hero and the best of the British.

“I sincerely believe his inspiring back story will win him new fans and shine a light on the incredible work he has done for the people and business of Lancashire.

“Dave has told his friends he’s accepted and can’t wait to get started.

“For Dave, it’s a dream come true.

“He is a working-class man who has done well and decided to use his success to help others.”

Dave left school at 16 with no qualifications before starting a minibus business.

He set up independent lending company Burnley Savings and Loans in 2011, its birth featured in the 2012 Channel 4 series Bank Of Dave.

Last year, his life story was turned into a Netflix movie of the same title, in which Rory Kinnear plays Dave.

A sequel, Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger, is planned for 2025, with Rory’s Dave taking on the loan sharks and the real Dave appearing as the villain.

A Strictly spokesman said: “We don’t comment on speculation.”
