British Rock Band Shares Video of Moment They're Robbed at Gunpoint While Ordering Coffee '10 Minutes' into U.S. Tour

A British rock band is reliving the moment they were robbed at gunpoint on the first day of their US tour.

On Tuesday, December 3, the Sports Team – made up of Alex Rice, Oli Dewdney, Al Greenwood, Rob Knaggs, Ben Mack and Henry Young – shared a video of the moment a group of masked men began attacking their van while they were ordering a coffee at Starbucks.

“Just got robbed at gunpoint 10 minutes into US tour,” read the headline about the incident, which took place outside a Starbucks in Vallejo, California, according to CBS News and the BBC.

“Stopped by for coffee. A man runs in and says some guys are crashing into a van. He ran out to stop it and found masked guys searching the van,” the band added. “He started shouting and they pulled out a gun. The response from the police was ‘submit an online report’. ”

The rock band added that while some of their personal belongings were stolen, it did not include any of their instruments.

“So we’re driving to Sacramento to play tonight,” the band added. “They can take our Nintendo Switches, but they can never take our ability to play rock songs about freeways.”

“In all seriousness, it’s quite shocking how resigned everyone seems to be to, ‘It’s happening.’ 9 in the morning at some Starbucks Wild gas station,” they added more seriously.

In the video, someone behind the camera can be heard yelling, “Get down, Lauren get down,” before the band members run back into Starbucks. “Call the police, call the police. Guys, somebody call the police,” the voice added.

Others could be heard shouting “Stay inside” as two people were filmed running for safety.

Speaking to the BBC about the incident, Sport Team drummer Al Greenwood said the band was in Starbucks when someone walked in and asked if anyone had a “white Sprinter van? Because you are being robbed right now.”

“We all ran out, screaming. Lauren, our tour guide, was a little ahead of me, and someone else ran past us in the opposite direction and said, ‘Careful, he’s holding something,'” Greenwood recalled.

“I really thought I was going to watch someone shoot, because it took our tour manager a while to figure it out,” he added. – In the video, you can hear me screaming at her to get down.

The band also said they were surprised by the calm reactions of people nearby.

“Obviously, if someone pulls a gun, you run for cover,” singer Alex Rice told the paper. “But what struck me was the resignation. The people around us were not panicking at all. It seemed like a very everyday occurrence.”

The Vallejo Police Department did not immediately respond when PEOPLE reached out for comment.
