British Singer James Morrison’s Longterm Partner Gill Catchpole Dies at 45

Gill Catchpole, the longtime partner of British singer-songwriter James Morrison, has died, according to multiple reports.

Catchpole, with whom the “You Give Me Something” singer has two young daughters, was found dead at her home in Whitminster, Gloucestershire on Friday after police were called “due to concerns for the welfare of residents”, Gloucestershire Police said in a statement shared with Sky News. She was 45 years old.

Police officers reportedly found the body of a woman in her 40s at that address, and the death is considered non-suspicious, reports the BBC.

A representative for Morrison had no comment when contacted by PEOPLE.

Catchpole owned a cafe called the Cotswold Sandwich Box, and in November reflected on the anniversary of his kidney transplant in a post shared on the shop’s Facebook page.

“Well, what can I say. What a difference one year makes. Last year at this time I had a kidney transplant and a year later, after a lot of ups and downs, here I am, owning my own business,” she wrote at the time. “At the beginning of this year, I didn’t expect this myself. For anyone struggling, I can tell you from experience that it does get better. Thanks to my amazing family and friends who have been there through it all and picked up many pieces of me and my life. You all know who you are. I feel blessed today. Xxxxxxx”

“Gill almost died because her blood pressure dropped so much that her heart almost stopped,” he said at the time. “Gill said, ‘I’m going,’ and her eyes were full of tears. I was a mess. But after the transfusion, her blood pressure quickly returned. When we got back to the ward, I let go of all my emotions. Gill was my hero.”

He continued: “I’m still in awe of how she survived that. She is my rock. I’ve known her since I played open mic bars and was a van cleaner. I could never replace her.”

Morrison and Catchpole first met when the musician was 17 and Catchpole moved in with her then-boyfriend as a lodger in Morrison’s mother’s house.

James Morrison says he is ready for fatherhood

“It wasn’t the easiest start, but I still see it as a really romantic thing… The fact that we met the way we did, I always think of it as a little fairy tale or something,” he told Time for white wine questions podcast in 2021.

He added that he often sang her songs from Stevie Wonder’s 1976 classic Songs in the key of lifeand that the record still “reminds me of the moment I met her and of me just serenading her in the hallway hoping she would jump out.”

“Her dad’s a musician and it’s like one of those subconscious things where she’s like, ‘Oh, he sings,’ and she was like, ‘Oh, my dad likes to sing.’ We really connected right away,” he said. “But I had to wait about two years to find out if what I thought I felt was real, because… she was with her boyfriend, so I was getting to know her and I didn’t want to tell her that I fell in love with her the first time I saw her. ”
