Brooke Shields' Iconic Calvin Klein Jeans Going to Auction: 'Can't Wait for Someone to Show These Off' (Exclusive)

Brooke Shields is giving up her most iconic pair of jeans.

The 59-year-old actress is auctioning the denim she wore in her controversial 1980 ad campaign for Calvin Klein as part of Studio Auctions’ next event “From Bombs to Blasters: An Auction You Can’t Refuse”.

The auction will feature memorabilia from blockbuster franchises such as Star Wars and Stranger franchise, as well as collectibles from icons including Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Marlon Brando. Shields will display a handful of her personal items including Calvin Klein jeans, her screenplay from the 1980 film Blue Lagoon and her high school cheerleading sweater, which she tells PEOPLE she’s very “proud of.”

“I hope it’s important to someone else,” she adds.

Of the pieces she contributed — especially her CK jeans, Shields tells PEOPLE, “I’m going to be an empty nester! I am so sad. But now I’m going through all my closets and stuff and I’m ready to give away some of my special pieces, like my Calvin Klein jeans. Can you imagine if my waist was ever that small? That’s scary! But I hope someone enjoys them as much as I do and finds them as meaningful as I do. I can’t wait for someone to show them off!”

Shields was just 15 when the 1980 ad ran. Her age sparked controversy due to the ad’s provocative tagline: “You want to know what’s between me and my Calvins? Nothing.”

In 2023, Klein told PEOPLE that, reflecting on the ad, he sees it as “fun, innocent, and yes, sexy as hell.” Shields also said the slogan had a different meaning for her. She recalled: “I had a dog and I would say, ‘Nothing stands between me and my dog.’ It was an expression.”

In her 2023 episode What now? podcast, Shields told guest Katie Couric that her mom kept the three original pairs featured in the ad. She explained that one pair had been given to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, while the others were still in her possession

“I’m going to frame the other two in Plexiglas, you know, the front and then the back,” the model explained.

The “From Bombshells to Blasters: An Auction You Can’t Refuse” auction will take place over two weekends, September 20-22 and October 25-27 (Shields’ items will be available for auction in October).

“I am excited to work with Studio Auctions to give these pieces a new home. Each of these items represents a different chapter of my life, and I think it’s really meaningful to be able to share these personal memories and parts of myself with people who will appreciate them,” Shields tells PEOPLE.
