On Tuesday, the Sea.Hear.Now music festival announced its highly-anticipated lineup, revealing Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band as one of two headline acts set to perform in Asbury Park, New Jersey, for this year’s September 14th and 15th weekend event.
Jersey legend Springsteen — who headlines alongside fellow headliner Noah Kahan — is no stranger to the Sea.Hear.Now stage, having made a surprise appearance on stage with Social Distortion during the festival’s inaugural year in 2018.
However, Springsteen’s confirmed spot on the lineup comes as a rarity for the rock icon, who has earned a reputation as a mystic thanks to his unannounced surprise appearances at New Jersey music halls over the years.

Springsteen’s presence in the line-up is also significant due to the fact that the festival shares ground with the famous Stone Pony, a stage where he has played more than any other concert venue. His first surprise club appearance was in September 1974 with the Blackberry Booze Band (renamed Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes).

Jersey Shore performances aside, Springsteen—who released a greatest hits album in April, titled — recently joined Jon Bon Jovi on stage at the 2024 MusiCares Awards in February, where the fellow Jersey rocker was honored for his humanitarian efforts. Springsteen’s recent performances have come amid his recovery from a peptic ulcer. The “Born in the USA” singer announced in late September that he is in the middle of treatment for the condition and is postponing the remainder of his 2023 tour as a result.
This year marks the sixth Sea.Hear.Now Music Festival, a two-day celebration of live music, art and surf culture produced by acclaimed rock photographer Danny Clinch. In addition to Springsteen and Kahan, other performers include The Black Crowes, The Revivalists, Kool and the Gang, Gaslight Anthem, 311 and Norah Jones.
“It went so fast,” Clinch, 60, told PEOPLE exclusively in September 2023 of his 2018-launched spiel, which has been shown annually since then, excluding 2020 in light of the pandemic. “Everybody loves this festival because Asbury Park is a great place to be in the fall,” he said, referring to the “amazing” surf and weather in New Jersey in September.
