Bruce Springsteen Spooks Halloween Audience with Surprise 'Ghostbusters' Performance

If it’s dark on the edge of town, who will you call? “Ghostbusters!”

Bruce Springsteen surprised the crowd at Montreal’s Center Bell by opening his Halloween show with a cover of Ray Parker Jr.’s song. Ghostbusters title track. It was the first time The Boss, 75, performed the song.

In a fan video from the performance, The E Street Band kicks off with the familiar keyboard and trumpet intro with Springsteen’s dancing backing singers. By the time Springsteen takes the mic to sing, “If there’s something weird in your neighborhood, who you gonna call?”, the crowd is along for the ride and keeps singing along.

“This is not a jam session, not a stump band. It’s an experience. It’s a show,” said Garry Tallent, who has played bass with Springsteen since his 1973 debut album. “Bruce has carefully compiled this list. Start listening a little better, different emotions come out of each song every time you hear it.”

“[The] the set list this time will convey the story you’re trying to tell your audience,” Springsteen explained in the now-airing documentary. “And the 25 songs I focused on would complete the narrative of what I wanted to say and let the audience know who I am at this point in my working life.”

Springsteen and the E Street Band’s Canadian tour continues until November 22, ending with a performance at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The band will be on a European tour in May, June and July next year.
