Buffalo Bills Linebacker Von Miller Claims Domestic Violence Allegations Are ‘Blown Out of Proportion’

Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller is dealing with his arrest on domestic violence charges.

On Thursday, Miller, 34, spoke to reporters for the first time since Dallas police issued a warrant for his arrest, citing assault on a pregnant woman, the Dallas Police Department (DPD) confirmed to PEOPLE on Nov. 30.

Miller surrendered the same day and was later released after posting $5,000 bail, ESPN reported Thursday.

“It’s been a crazy month,” Miller he told reporters in an opening statement before answering questions at a press conference Thursday. “Obviously, there are things I can’t talk about, but everything that’s been out there is completely wrong and overblown.”

“Me and my girlfriend, we have problems like any other couple, but there was never anything that was attributed to me,” he added. “I hope that in time all these things will clear up. Life, sometimes life just…be life. You just have to keep pushing and keep moving. People who know me and people who have been around me know my character, they know who I am .”

The linebacker said “it’s all false and it’s all untrue” when asked by reporters what aspects of the allegations against him were untrue, according to ESPN. Miller said domestic violence has never been a factor in his relationship and noted that he and his girlfriend are expecting their third son, according to the newspaper.

A representative for the Dallas County District Attorney’s office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Friday.

On Nov. 30, a DPD representative told PEOPLE that police responded to a “major disturbance call” in the 3100 block of North Harwood in Dallas on Nov. 29 around 11 a.m. local time.

“The preliminary investigation has identified the suspect, 34-year-old Vonnie Miller, and the victim got into a verbal altercation and the suspect attacked,” the representative said.

The alleged victim of the incident told police that she and Miller had been in a relationship for seven years, had children together and was six weeks pregnant at the time of the incident, according to ESPN, which cited an affidavit for an arrest warrant against Mlinar. The affidavit states that Miller physically assaulted the alleged victim and then told him she was going to call the police, after which Miller left the home, media reported.

“Honestly, I wasn’t on social media before and I definitely wasn’t on social media now. But from the things I’ve brought to my attention, it’s all fake,” Miller told reporters when asked if he and his girlfriend had fought on Nov. 29, according to ESPN- in. “And I’d love to sit here and say, ‘You all know me!’ But it’s not, this is not the situation because domestic violence really happens all over the world – for men and women.”

“And that’s a serious situation, so I wouldn’t withdraw that card,” he added. “All I can say is that it’s only a matter of time before everything falls into place.”
