A group of Buffalo Bills players were seen on video confronting a Philadelphia Eagles fan during Sunday’s game at Lincoln Financial Field amid a heated confrontation, in which players say the fan “threatened” them and their families.
During Sunday’s game, before the Bills lost in overtime 37-34, defensive end Shaq Lawson, defensive end Jordan Phillips and other players and staff members were filmed approaching a fan in the front row of the stadium.
After Phillips appeared to get into a verbal argument with the spectator, who was pointing at the player, his teammate Lawson then appeared to push the fan before the altercation was quickly broken up and the players left.

Phillips later shared a message on Instagram, explaining how the incident happened. “I love the crowd, I love the raucous fans, it makes the game fun,” he wrote. “But one thing I will not tolerate is someone threatening me or my family.”
“This is a line that must not be crossed.”

“Before the game yesterday, there was a fan behind our bench who made remarks about the lives of us and our families,” he allegedly wrote. “We asked Philadelphia security to remove the fan, but he was allowed to stay the entire game. In the end, our emotions boiled over and I made a mistake. I apologize for that, but there are certain lines that cannot be crossed.”
WHAM’s Mike Catalana as well reportsciting sources, that the NFL and security representatives at the stadium were informed of the threats from fans and that the spectator remained in his seat during the game.
Representatives of the Bills and Eagles organizations did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for additional information on Monday.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Monday that the incident was a “very unfortunate situation.”
“I was informed this morning about the incident that happened during the match,” he said. “It’s unfortunate that this would happen especially during a game. What I’m aware of is that people were asked to remove the fan and nothing was done.”
“So at the end of the day, it’s not for us to worry about at this point and it’s just unfortunate that it would happen during a game.”
